Laura is a licensed Architect and Interior Designer with nearly twenty years of industry experience. Laura entered the design and building industry in 2006, after earning her bachelor’s degree from UC Davis. She worked several years as an Interior Designer in San Francisco, where she graduated, magna cum laude, from FIDM’s Interior Design program. She then earned her Master of Architecture degree, cum laude, from the NewSchool of Architecture and Design, and went on to work for noted design and development firms in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Sacramento.
From these years of experience, Laura has a strong command of project management, the entitlement and permitting process, and the unique challenges of the multi-family rehab and development sector. In 2020, Laura opened her own firm, bringing her broad expertise and passion for design to a personal studio setting.

Kyla Barriga
PROJECT ARCHITECT + LEAD INTERIOR DESIGNER
Kyla is a licensed architect and the Lead Interior Designer at LMD. With a strong eye for materials and color and an aptitude for space planning, she creates environments that balance function, beauty, and long-term durability. Her dual expertise allows her to seamlessly bridge architectural concepts with the interior experience, ensuring that every project has a cohesive design narrative. From finish palettes and FF&E selections to permitting and construction coordination, Kyla leads projects with calm confidence and a meticulous attention to detail. Clients appreciate her thoughtful communication style, her ability to translate ideas into clear visual direction, and her dedication to creating spaces that feel intentionally crafted.

Ivan Sanchez
PROJECT DESIGNER
Ivan is a Sacramento native, born and raised, with a deep appreciation for the region. He earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree cum laude from NewSchool of Architecture and Design in San Diego, where he developed a strong foundation in thoughtful, collaborative design. At LMD, Ivan manages a wide range of residential, multifamily, and commercial architectural projects. He brings a team-oriented mindset and a keen eye for translating ideas into built form, and values working closely with clients to help turn their vision into functional, meaningful spaces. Outside of the office, Ivan enjoys fishing, being with family, discovering new music, and watching the Sacramento Kings.

Laurel Gates
INTERN
Laurel is interning at LMD and will be earning her BFA in Interior Architecture from Chico State in the spring of 2026. Born and raised in the Greater Sacramento area, she feels a strong connection to her community and values the opportunity to work on local projects. Laurel has always had a passion for design and values the hands-on experience that helps her grow as a designer.
